#sparkchamber 102819 — Marlene Hodgdon
Upcoming this weekend at the John DeSotelle Theatre in NYC, The New Short Play Festival — a series of original short plays created for and by original artists. And #sparkchamber’s own Marlene Hodgdon — dreamer, schemer, lyricist, law-of-attraction junkie, endlessly curious, animal lover, passionate traveler, meditator, crazy-no-one’s-watchin’ dancer, infuser of faith in others’ dreams, wordplay maniac, sexually/creatively charged up [same chakra], addicted to colors, alchemista, always putting my 6th sense into all — is part of the magic.
Now in its 7th season, the festival offers six different lineups, each comprised of six to eight short plays. In all, 44 plays by 24 playwrights, with 22 directors directing 43 performers, running over two consecutive weekends. All that makes for one amazing event!
Marlene is part of the cast in two plays this weekend: Jill takes a Leap, in Lineup E running Friday the 1st at 8:30 pm and again Sunday the 3rd at 3:00 pm, and Final Rest, in Lineup F running Saturday the 2nd at 6:00pm and again Sunday the 3rd at 5:30 pm. Here’s the full schedule.
If you’re in the neighborhood, check it out! Meanwhile, here’s a look back on Marlene’s thoughts on the creative process, originally posted August 28, 2018.
1.] Where do ideas come from?
Old movies, peoples’ stories, all of nature especially the sea, the subway, songs I have to look up lyrics and sing through several times if they come into my head, peoples’ voices that make me want to create a character on the spot.
2.] What is the itch you are scratching?
An outlet for my very active, creatively-fueled mind
3.] Early bird or night owl, tortoise or hare?
I cater to pay the bills and have been getting paid acting work which thrills me to no end!
4.] How do you know when you are done?
There’s always another aspect that reveals itself because everything is connected to the expansion of the all.
