#sparkchamber 091619 — Janice Biggs
A warm #sparkchamber welcome to writer, director, and producer Janice Biggs. After graduating from Brown University in Providence RI, Janice moved to Los Angeles. Within months she was working at Propaganda films — a vibrant bootcamp of sorts for independent filmmaking. After a few years of exploring various aspects of the filmmaking process — script analyst, assistant editor, director’s assistant, production coordinator — she focused on production. Janice self-describes as “a bit of a split personality” in that she possesses both a strong entrepreneurial spirit yet prefers a set of well-defined social rules. Threading that needle, this year she opened a boutique production company, MR BIGGS. She has a feature film in development — Linden Street, the story of a young black man thrust into the unfamiliar role of single parent — which she wrote and will direct. Biggs things on the horizon! In the meantime, follow along on Instagram.
1.] Where do ideas come from?
Sitting on the subway [visual/emotional stimuli] or when I run outdoors [optimum brain function].
2.] What is the itch you are scratching?
A way to find my tribe.
3.] Early bird or night owl? Tortoise or hare?
Green tea, wine, this is definitely a tough question. For the most part writing is painful, but it feels great to hear actors speak your dialogue!
4.] How do you know when you are done?
When you run out of resources or someone you respect tells you it’s done.
